AI visibility intelligence

AI visibility

AI visibility is not a vanity score. It is evidence of whether your company enters the answer.

AI visibility describes how a company, product, service, or source appears across measured AI answer surfaces for questions that matter to buyers. Useful measurement starts with real demand, records provider-specific observations, and preserves enough evidence to compare what changes over time.

What AI visibility measures

A practical AI visibility baseline asks whether a company is mentioned for relevant buyer-intent questions, which competitors appear in the same answers, what citations or sources are exposed when available, and how consistently those observations repeat across providers and measurement runs.

Why buyer intent matters

A brand mention is only commercially useful when the question represents plausible demand. Promptence therefore starts from market, category, and purchase-oriented questions instead of prompts written only to force the measured brand into an answer.

Provider-specific evidence

Different AI providers, models, retrieval systems, and product surfaces can return different answers. Measurements should keep provider and run provenance attached to observations rather than combining every result into an unexplained universal score.

Local business AI visibility

For local businesses, the demand context can include a city, district, nearby intent or service area. Maps, reviews, directories, local listings and first-party pages help create public signals, but they are not the measurement endpoint. Promptence measures whether the combined footprint translates into observed AI recommendations, which competitors appear instead and which source evidence is exposed. See the dedicated Local Business AI Visibility guide for the full workflow.

Useful AI visibility metrics

Useful reporting can include observed mention rate, competitor share of observed demand, citation presence when available, recurring source domains, failed observations, and before-versus-after deltas. No single metric should hide the evidence underneath it.

What can improve visibility

Improvements may involve clearer entity information, technically accessible pages, stronger first-party explanations, credible third-party references, useful research, structured content, and better alignment between what buyers ask and what the public web can verify. The appropriate change depends on the observed gap.

What cannot be guaranteed

No external service controls third-party AI answers. Model versions, retrieval behavior, freshness, geography, and other factors can change outputs. Promptence therefore focuses on evidence, approved changes, and comparable remeasurement instead of guaranteed rankings or recommendations.
